For What It's Worth...

December 1st, 2003:
Turkey Day. Rogerbox plays again.

Thanksgiving this year was a little less stressful. We usually dash frantically from one side of the metro area to another. However, this year, our schedules worked out well. We even got to eat this time!

Ben came into town last week too. It was very cool to see him. We’re hoping to head out to NYC to chill sometime soon.

Rogerbox has been asked to open for LENNON, a national band fronted by Lennon Murphy. We’re excited to play with someone so similar to our style… not to mention a national act. The show starts at 9:30, December 11th at the I-Rock in Detroit.

More Rogerbox love…

Rogerbox played at the I-Rock in Detroit on Wednesday (the biggest bar night of the year)… with a selection of bands we wouldn’t classify as a good fit (Hate Makes Rage, Gruesome Harvest Orchestra, Headsmashedin), but the audience really liked us. Things are still going well; we’re working on new songs and plan to record soon. In fact, the I-Rock asked us to open for LENNON on December 11th. This will be our first show with a national act. Based on her what I’ve heard so far, we should be a good fit as an opening act.

Detroit Rock City. DNS… BIND… just kick me in the head.

Rogerbox has been playing a lot lately. Most recently, we played a show at the I-Rock Nightclub. We were the only band that night, and the turnout was pretty impressive. The bar asked us to come back and play on Wednesday (Nov. 26)… the biggest bar night of the year. Check us out if you have some free time and like cheap drinks!

One character is all it takes. Just one character missing from a DNS zone file to take 3 hours of your life away. 3 hours that I’ll never get back… thanks to a missing “$” in my TTL declaration. That’s the last time I edit a zone file after holiday shopping… I think they put something in the air to make you susceptible to suggestion.

Winterized WRX… and a little bling for the winter…

Well, the winter wheels and tires are back on my WRX. I’ve also pulled the aftermarket electronic boost controller so I can datalog the car’s stock performance over the winter and into spring. I have plenty of summer data already. Once I have enough info about my fuel condition (rich/lean) and EGTs, I’ll decide on what I’m going to do with my uppipe and boost controller. The EBC was set pretty conservatively with boost coming in a little earlier than stock, but still hitting the same ~13.5 psig as stock. With the right logging, I’ll be able to decide on the best compromise between performance and reliability.

What else might I have up my sleeve? Most of my efforts will be concentrated on my Camaro for the coming year. However, I do plan to upgrade some of the induction components on my WRX (Samco IC hoses, turbo inlet, etc.) and some more exhaust work. I still have a pretty trick brake upgrade to complete, too. My wife promises to help me with it all now that our wedding responsibilities have tapered off.

SUVs should be banned.

I’m sure everyone is tired of me ranting about SUVs (and the drivers of them). A few years ago, I was run off of the road by a Toyota 4Runner. This morning, Gina was rear-ended by a Jeep Cherokee that was unable to stop in time when a car swerved into traffic from the left shoulder on the expressway. Gina’s car stopped fine. The overweight SUV behind her could not. Her car is damaged, but she it o.k. Most likely all will be repairable. (Damage: Photo 1, Photo 2, Photo 3)
